The verdict is in - high quality web content is king when it comes to getting better search engine ranking and, as a result, more traffic to your website. The days of getting by with low-quality, information-starved, ultra-short web articles and pages stuffed with keywords are over and done.

So in order to get decent ranking in search results your content must be highly relevant, unique, and informative.
Quick tip: Ensure that the reader you're targeting gets a "takeaway" (a valuable piece of information) before he clicks away. The chances are good that he'll click his way throughout your website and maybe even buy something before he leaves.

The quality of the content on your website isn't the only thing that matters when you're trying to achieve better search engine ranking and eventually more traffic. You still have to do a little bit of an SEO treatment to your content. That includes adding a few keywords (but not stuffing) strategically, using meta tags and tagging in your HTML if it's a standard web page.
Backlinking
Backlinking is also key to better search engine ranking, but only if the links come from other quality websites. If you're unfamiliar, backlinking is the process of getting other highly ranked websites with good online reputations to link to your site. There are very specific and effective ways to build links -- it takes time, work and patience. But getting other businesses to link to yours becomes easier when you have high quality content on your website. A reputable website is not going to take your smaller, lesser-known website seriously if you have jumbled phrases, countless misspellings and information that's not very informative.
